Origin and terroir:
Grown in the Kirundo region of northern Burundi, this Red Bourbon is processed at the Kigobe washing station, a project run by Kalico (Kahawa Link Company). Founded by Angèle Ciza in 2012, the company is now run by her son, Alexandre Shaka Mugisha. The family business continues to uphold its vision and now works with seven washing stations, placing education, women's empowerment, and quality at the heart of its mission.
Process: Natural (sun-dried on raised beds for an explosion of fruit flavors).
Commitments:
Social: 70% of women producers supported by microfinance programs and scholarships for young girls.
Regenerative agriculture: distribution of animals to fertilize the soil, training in sustainable techniques.
Fair prices: well above the local market rate to enable a dignified life.
